Low fat food and snacks

Below is a list of some low-fat foods and low-fat snacks.
  • Most fruits and veggies are naturally low in fat. Some, such as the avocado, are very high in fat, but the fat is monounsaturated. This type of healthy fat has its own benefits, such as helping to lower cholesterol.
  • Nuts: peanut butter, almonds, cashews, pecans, pistachios and most other nuts are a good choice for low-fat snacks.

  • Seeds: Sunflower, pumpkin and sesame
  • Whole grain breads and other grains such as oatmeal, popcorn and barley
  • Dairy: Choose skim or 1% milk, low-fat yogurt and cheeses
  • There are many great low-fat snack options
    • Popcorn (of course, you’ll want to skip the butter)
    • Angel food cake
    • Cookies made with whole grain, such as oatmeal cookies
    • Low-fat ice cream or frozen yogurt
    • Pretzels
    • Certain crackers
Even if you go to the store armed with a low-fat foods list, you still need to read every label when choosing items. Ignore the front labels which can be misleading. Make your decisions based on what is on the nutrition labels.
Low Fat Foods That Fill You Up
Following a low-fat diet does not mean that you have to feel hungry. There are many low-fat foods that are very filling.
  • Oatmeal
  • Soup – Naturally, you will want to avoid heavy, creamy options and choose a healthier soup.
  • Pasta – whole grain is best
  • Legumes are a wonderful, filling option.
A low-fat foods list is not the end all and be all of good health. Still, if you cut down on “bad” fats while increasing your intake of “good” fats that can have a very positive impact on your weight and your health.
